Alexander Wilson: The Ruffed Grouse - ALW 09

$5.99

Alexander Wilson moved to America in 1794 from Scotland at the age of 28.  For the next ten years he worked as a school teacher eventually taking over as the lead educator at Gray’s Ferry near Philadelphia.  Here he met the naturalist William Bartram whose extensive library contained numerous works on zoology and botany.  From these Wilson taught himself to draw studies of birds and indeed developed his own unique style of illustration.  In 1808 he published what was to become one of the truly great ornithology books of the nineteenth century titled American Ornithology.  We are happy to share a number of charming images from this work. The 5x7 card is blank inside and comes with an accompanying envelope - shipping is free.
