Johann Naumann: Falcons - N 04

$5.99

Johann Friedrich Naumann was one of the first ornithologists of Europe at the outset of the nineteenth century.  He was a self-taught painter and spent much of his time in the countryside around his farm observing birds and assembling a vast collection of nests and eggs.  Based on his fieldwork and collecting he went on to create the masterpiece, Naturgeschicte der Vogel Deutschlands, in 12 volumes (1822-1844).  Postumously, the engravings were reimagined using chromolithography and published in 1895 in the work Naturgeschicte der Vogel Mittleuropas, from which our selections are taken.  The 5x7 card is blank inside and comes with an accompanying envelope - shipping is free.
