Naumann: The Bald Eagle - Matted Print N12M

$14.99

Johann Friedrich Naumann was one of the first ornithologists of Europe at the outset of the nineteenth century.  He was a self-taught painter and spent much of his time in the countryside around his farm observing birds and assembling a vast collection of nests and eggs.  Based on his fieldwork and collecting he went on to create the masterpiece, Naturgeschicte der Vogel Deutschlands, in 12 volumes (1822-1844).  Postumously, the engravings were reimagined using chromolithography and published in 1895 in the work Naturgeschicte der Vogel Mittleuropas, from which our selections are taken. The matt size is 8” x 10” and the image opening measures 4.5” x 6.5”. Shipping is free.
