Thomas Gentry: Golden Crested Kinglet - TG 010

$5.99

This image comes from the beautifully illustrated work of Thomas Gentry in the book Nests and Eggs of Birds of the United States published in 1882.  Gentry was a member of the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences and a teacher by profession.  His strong interest in ornithology tied to his exacting field work observing birds lead to the publication of several scientific papers and books.  This included the work Life and Immortality: Or Souls in Plants and Animals (1897) that argued for the consciousness of plants and animals, a viewpoint that Gentry hoped would lead to the humane treatment of non-human life including birds.   The 5x7 card is blank inside and comes with an accompanying envelope - shipping is free.
